Juror’s Statement
The gallery, exhibition space, museum; it is my great joy to be surrounded by art. My task as judge is to dole merit uncovered from the secret dialogue between artwork and viewer. My confident perspective is strengthened by a broad knowledge of historical and contemporary glass techniques and artists, professional experience in academics and the art community at large, and a personal commitment to glass as myself a working artist. I weigh elements of each piece against those of its exhibition companions, including craftsmanship, presentation, and innovative use of materials, concepts, and techniques. I spend time with every work, exploring it from many angles both physically and conceptually, before making judgment. Every exhibition offers new opportunity to engage in meaningful criticism and dialogue, and I thank the Peninsula Glass Guild for inviting me to take part in this 21st Annual Peninsula Glass Guild Show.
